My pc specs :
  • CPU : AMD A8 7600 (using stock fan)
  • Mobo : ASRock FM2A88X Extreme4+
  • Graphics : Radeon R9-380P-2DF5 2GB by XFX
  • RAM : Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz (4x4gb) [2 new sticks and 2 older ones]
  • PSU : Corsair VS650
  • 1 DVD RW [old hardware]
  • 1 HDD WD10 EARS (1tb) [old hardware], I have two partitions (+ the hidden reserved for system partition of course)

The Beta download section for your board has a 2.60A version that is very likely not much different than version 2.50, and most likely does not have whatever it is in the 3.20 version that seems to be causing this problem.

Intel Motherboards : Extremely slow write speed on ASMedia SATA

Subject: Extremely slow write speed on ASMedia SATA
Posted: 18 May 2016 at 4:56pm

Hi,
I have a Z97 Extreme6 motherboard and have now fully populated all SATA ports (6 Intel and 4 ASMedia). On the ASMedia SATA I have 3 HDDs and 1 optical DVD-reader/writer (and 1 SSD + 5 HDD on the Intel SATA). One of the ASMedia HDDs sits in a front-loading casette.

Everything is fine on the Intel SATA ports, but the ASMedia SATA have extremely slow HDD write performance, 3 Mbyte/s for disk capabable of ~100 Mbyte/s. Read performance seems okey (70 Mbyte/s), but could probably be a bit faster. This happens on all ASMedia SATA ports (and for any HDD if I swap from Intel side, including cables).

Configuration: I5-4690K , 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 970, HDDs (all Western Digital ranging from 750GB-4TB), SSD Samsung 850 (Pro) 512GB, default BIOS, no RAID and I'm running Windows 7 (Professional) ... no external HDDs.

* I've updated to latest BIOS (from 1.70 to 2.50)
* Drivers are up to date, including ASMedia SATA3 driver 2.0.8.0
* I've tested disabling write caching (in Windows)
* I've tried switching ASMedia SATA mode to IDE (from default AHCI) (BIOS)

Other things: All the ASMedia HDDs are listed as ejectable (in "Safely Remove..." menu), which is kind of annoying ... but that doesn't compare to how annoying the write speed is ;)

Any suggestions?
Could motherboard (ASMedia controller) be broken?

Hi,

I have a Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac running firmware 2.10.

I have 2 identical fans, one connected to FAN_CHA1 and the other to FAN_CHA2.

I can adjust the spped of Fan1 based upon the Fantastic tuning in the BIOS but Fan2 always runs at full speed (and is very noisy).

Why is this?

Thanks

Thank you parsec but I don't think 2.60A is much of an option : most people here report freezes while running vanilla 2.60 firmware, so although 2.60A is likely to be close to 2.50, it's much more likely to have the same problems as 2.60, plus a bunch of other stuff from being a beta release.

After browsing the net for several hours about informations on C6, I decided to test L0405 solution at the moment, waiting to see if my computer will like it better (another interesting thread on this subject although this person has a different CPU).

Unfortunately deactivating the C6 core sleep mode seems to have some side effects, including a little more strain, temperatures and power consumption of the CPU when idle (perhaps also when working... readings from AMD Overdrive seems to indicate higher use of CPU when doing something strenuous, but I can't be completely sure about it).

Even if this works, I think on the long term it may (at least) slightly diminish the life span of the CPU, the CPU's fan and the thermal paste as well as crank up my power bill a notch.

Anyway, I am curious to know what pushed AsRock to stop distributing older bios versions, especially since this problem was reported by several people and seems to have an easy fix. Maybe 2.50 has other defects, but I would like to be given the choice to test that for myself, since any and all bios flashing is done at your own risks anyway.

thank you very much for ur reply! i will do as u said the next time i will shut down the PC. not sure if i got another SATA cable, i guess i can use the one on my CD/DVD drive?
(i thought about this already, since the yellow led on my CD drive always lights up when i turn on the pc, but as said the hard drive led only in the cases where it actually manages to boot. i checked the cable from my CD/DVD drive and it did not say SATA if i recall correctly so i was not sure if i could try to use that one.)

yes, it is a mechanical drive.
i ran a tool called HD Tune last night, which allows to scan the HD for errors. i canceled the scan after it was about 40% through and did not see any errors and went to bed. maybe i should have ran it over night. before that i ran chkdsk /f /r and it was stuck on 12% for what seemed to be forever. but the red harddrive led was still on so so i left the PC for a while and eventually it seemed to have finished. however i was back to no signal on my monitor and the red led was off when i came back. but after turning the pc off and on again for a few times it did boot and went straight into windows iirc.

as u can tell already i managed to get through those nasty windows BSODs, so i can boot windows, only it takes time, as described.

thanks again for ur reply, i will report back once i tried.

(now that i think of it i think i might have already tried disconnecting my HD with the result of still not getting any signal on my monitor. i tried so much stuff i cant remember for sure. i will try again)

Having fan issues here too. I email ASRock about it so we'll see what they say. Cleared CMOS was no help. Mine won't run in silent mode or properly in custom mode except for cha_fan 2. Cpu fan will run but shut off whenever it feels like it. they all run in standard or higher. Perhaps a BIOS issue. Noticed that the most recent update says "modify cpu fan behavior". I'll let you know what ASRock says.

I have multiple SSDs requiring ATA passwords to sign on to the computer - is it possible to create a single sign on to unlock all SSDs so I only have to enter the password once, instead of 1 for each?

I realize this would require the same password for all SSDs

Does anyone know the correct size screw to get as a replacement?

Talked with ASRock. They got back to me within 2 hours of submitting an inquiry. Cudos to them for that. Tried the diagnosis process to no avail. RMAing the board. Might be the board itself. Tried clearing CMOS, reloading the UEFI defaults and adjusting the fans?

Xaltar was not referring to the CPU power saving option C6, you can enable both of those again.

I believe he was referring to the S5 power state. Configure that in the Chipset Configuration screen, Deep Sleep option, which is set to Disabled by default. There should be an S5 only setting.

I'm not sure if that will work for you, if it does I'd like to know.

I'm curious about your USB device recognition problems caused by the constantly applied power. Do you think that is caused by the USB devices not being tested during POST, or some other reason?

Got it. I'll give it a go tonight.

The issue is my mouse. I'll occasionally need to unplug it/plug it back in to get it function properly at bootup. Didn't have that issue on my previous PC on win 10, so the only thing that's changed is that the USB ports are always on. Could be something screwy with the mouse too, but I'd like to rule this out first.

Yeah..its kind of a silly annoyance.

Hi, i bought a Asrock Z97M Anniversary mother boards on amazon in october 2014, once i unplugged my mouse and usb port came out with it so i got it replaced by amazon in march 2015 but now when i turn my computer off it sometimes doesnt turn off completly, screens go black but the power buttons light and cooling fans stay on so i assume that motherboard is broken and doesnt cut off the signals/doesnt distribute the power properly as it also sometimes doesnt recognize some of my usb devices.
Any suggestions ?

I think you answered my question.  Current board is an MSI Z97 MPOWER MAX AC; cooling is a Noctua  NH-D14: 140mm fan + 120mm fan.  Only reason am I considering the Extreme6 is for its PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot... why MSI didn't do it with this is beyond me.

Subject: z170m extreme 4 and unsupported ram

Hello,

I just got a z170m extreme 4 for my new build.

I had some troubles with system stability after installation, especially blue screens and a couple of corrupted installations. Turned out it was the ram fault, so I got rid of the xpm profile, set them to default clock 2133mhz and now it seems to work.

Then I tried to raise it to 2666mhz, but I experienced another problem. System could not reboot after being turned off unless I unplugged the psu first (probably needing to discharge something), else I would get no POST. At that time I also had a mild overclock (4200 mhz on a i5 6600k). Again, defaulting to 2133mhz seems to have solved the problem.

My rams are two  Ripjaws 5 3200 (F4-3200C16D-16GVGB)  and I just noticed in this page (http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170M%20Extreme4/?cat=Memory) they are not supported. I also noticed that you suggest for 2pcs (DS) to use A1 and B1 slot, while I use A2 and B2 due to cooler clearance.

Now, I have two questions:

1- Can I assume the problems I have experienced were caused by the ram only? Could it partly be a motherboard problem or some other component? Should I worry for the future?

2-I don't care about 3200mhz, but I'm a bit unsatisfied with 2133mhz. Can you advice me a BIOS configuration to push them a bit remaining in the motherboard capabilities? Is it ok to keep them in A2/B2 slots?

Thank you in advance for your help Smile

The image of the N3000 is correct with normal use as OpenELEC.

But when he entered the Bios I do not see the image completely have to move the mouse to see the hidden part.

And it is distorted only occurs in the bios. Is it a mistake or normal TV? Attached a picture of the TV and detail of the deformation.

Capturing the full TV shows that part of the bios needed to view full you must move the mouse.

Thanks.

I have an ASRock H67M-GE and my wife has a Lumix camera with a 4GB Sandisc which I can't fit into the Tower unit.  I can see that there are a number of slots of different sizes but can't work out which one is the right one and which way up the disc should be.  Is there a diagram I could see and if so where can I find it.  Many thanks.
