Subject: Z390 PG9 Can't install Windows 10

Hello,

I have just completed a new build. When I insert my windows 10 USB I am able to select the 64bit install option. The machine then proceeds to the load files screen. After which it returns to the Asrock logo and spins for about 3 seconds. The screen goes black, as if the monitor is refreshing, then the machine returns to the Asrock UEFI page. If I don't hit F2 or F11 it returns to the Windows OS selection page for me to choose the 64bit or the 32bit OS. This results in an endless loop.

I am able to access the UEFI menu. I am able to see my proc, my drive, and my memory. The system never shuts down when I'm in the UEFI.

System Specs:

Mobo: z390 Phantom Gaming 9
Proc: I9-9900K
Radiator: Cooler Master ML360r
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200k 64GB
Drive: Samsung 970 Pro 1TB nvme
Video Card: Asus ROG Strix RTX 2070
Fans: 6 Deep Cool CF120s plugged into the mobo fan pins for speed and Cooler Master controller for RGB
Store bought Windows 10 USB stick

Here are things I've done so far in no particular order. I'e tried these things using the UEFI USB option and the Legacy USB option at different times.

1) Created my own memory sticks using rufus and windows creation tool. neither worked
2) Created my own USB by mounting ISO and copying files from ISO to USB
3) Removed everything from the Mobo except for 1 stick of RAM, nvme drive, and CPU cooler
4) Disconnected all fans from the board, and disconnected the AIO RGB controller
5) Asrock support suggested using slot A2 for RAM. Did not work. I have tried all 4 slots using 1 stick of RAM, none have worked.
6) I've tried by only using onboard graphics, and using the video card (adjusting UEFI settings) with everything else stripped out of the case except for items listed in 3.
7) I've used each of the I/O USB ports.
8) I've used the USB 2.0 port on the board
9) I've cleared CMOS between each troubleshooting step.
10) Tried all 3 M.2 slots
11) Removed the NVME drive and tried on a sata SSD
12) I have tried multiple UEFI settings including USB settings UEFI and Legacy mode, UEFI only. I disabled CSM. I set StorageOpRom to UEFI only.
13) The behavior never changes except for when I disable CSM. After the OS selection screen the monitor goes black, but is not turned off. Waited for a couple of hours and nothing happened.
14) I was able to install Ubuntu 16.04 with no issues.

I'm thinking their may be some video setting in the UEFI causing the issue since the monitor blanks out before the system flashes back to the UEFI screen. The system never turns off, or shuts down, but it acts like it was just powered on again for the first time. Could it potentially be a driver issue?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've been working on this since May 10. Asrock support only sent me irrelevant links from tom's hardware on how to build a PC, and has been unable to assist with my issue.

It is very normal for a driver install that your screen goes off amd on and does weird stuff (its installing the the driver). The sounds you hear (usb connect sound) is the sound of yout new drivet+screen being connected and so windows notices that ans you hear the connected device sound.

I read all you post and see that you reinstalled windows alot. To me it sounds like a driver problem atm. Its weird that you can use the same card in a different set up. Have you tried a different pcie slot (ik it gonna be less performance but just to isolate the problem). However if you van boot to windows using windows basic gfx drivers than the card imo should be fine. And i dont see why the mobo wouldnt. When yiu install your card....does yout bios maybe change it to integrated graphics after it try to boot? Did you try old drivers? Um does all stuff on that board work on your other board? Might it be your psu? I dont really see a mobo quit of a sudden.

It sounds like everything is working. And this is a driver problem. You know yo mess around in your windows when that screen is off.... You van download TeamViewer and link your pc to your account and get on your windows when you are online with a different device like your phone or other pc. This way you could directly reverse the driver back through device manager without needing a physical screen attached.

Important!!!!!! Did you flash your bios to a newer one? Did with that you also downloaded and installed the AMD all in 1 with VGA driver ver:18.50.16.01_WHQL? As the latest agesa needs that!

Hey man, did you ever update your bios even? It is to bad asrock doesn't reply but the problem isbso small to do so.

Ah thats to bad you go for a different motherboard. If your are on a budget i alsays recommend the pro4 if u have more to spend and wanna oc maybe the msi mortar is gour thing.

All asrock would have done is probably take your board in and get it back after a long time. Always better to RMA any product that you feel not sure or completely comfortable fitting with you.

For me... I use asrock first time ever... I am really satisfied... As a person who love to max out amd tweak the pro 4 is very budget and capable forbthat price. This board is ptrbably among the better ones in his price class and a bit above. Aftsr this board im interested in mortar personally which secretly is a x470 in disguise. After this id go look at x470 boards but skip the cheapest as the mortar easily out vrm them. If the pro 4 bios + options were as extended as for example a tai chi or fatality than pro 4 would be rocking even harder (for the price). Anysay this doesnt help you but i was just here to tell you that asrock isnt as bad as you think.

The person wbo says that many people report aegis doesnt work on ryzen is absolutely plucked out of the air. I picked this set blindly (trusting agesa). And i found out many with me use it on ryzen, even at 3200mhz. Now i havent oced much of my memory yet but flawless worked xmp and at 3133mhz with slightly tighter timings.

Hehe to bad i wasnt in ur position, would love to solve it and figure it out.

Can we expect an official ASRock response regarding the latest INTEL security breach: "Side Channel Vulnerability Microarchitectural Data Sampling"
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/mds.html

Can users expect an ASRock microcode update for the ASRock mainboards affected, just like we had for this:

Ascrock H170M Pro4 v7.20 bios
cpu i7-6700
disk TS512GMTE220S - PCIe SSD 220S 512GB - NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 ( https://www.transcend-info.com/Support/No-991 )
no graphics card.
black screen when connect monitor by HDMI
all worked well by D-SUB connection - enter bios, install windows, boot from M2.

but with HMDI - black screen only - no video. remove TS512GMTE220S - exist video by HDMI (enter to bios only of course without disk). insert back TS512GMTE220S - again black screen by HDMI and work normal (look like until) by D-SUB. are this can be solved ? formally only H370M Pro4 is support this NVMe

are if use graphic card - here will be ok with hdmi ? or may be graphic card will be conflict with NVMe TS512GMTE220S disk too ?

IPMI is not supported on mainstream boards, i think.
That is featured for Server/Workstation boards mainly for AMD EPYC systems.
Asrock is offering the Rack X470D4U with Integrated IPMI 2.0, KVM and Dedicated LAN (RTL8211E) for the AM4 x470 platform, but not for x370.

Take a look at www.asrockrack.com

G-Skill Aegis kits are designed for intel and we have had quite a few reports of them not posting on AM4 boards. Just because some do, does not mean I or others on the forums will recommend them to users

I recommend against Aegis RAM when picking out parts for a build, the chance that it may not work and need to be returned is not worth the hassle. The main problem has been that Aegis kits tend to be the cheapest DDR4 available and a lot of people have chosen to use them for this reason. There is nothing wrong with the RAM, it simply isn't tuned for AM4, that doesn't mean it won't work, if that were true 100% of the time we would be seeing a LOT more threads about it. I simply can't ignore multiple threads with users not being able to use them on their boards, either with issues posting or being completely unable to set them higher than their base frequency. If you have an Aegis kit and it is working well for you, that is great, you saved some money and got some solid RAM.

Precision Boost Override(PBO), does not seem to be activated by the settings in the BIOS.

AMD Ryzen Master -> Current indicates that it is off, after setting it as fnordie stated in XFR2 and PBO
XFR2 and PBO

XFR is under Advanced -> CPU Configuration

PBO under Advanced -> AMD CBS -> NBIO -> "XFR Enhancement" -> Precision boost overdrive (its funny wor the PBO is called XFR, dont get confused)

As many have stated, this is very frustrating for a top of the line MB, is there clearer documentation out there?

Even if such a 'fix' is released you should expect a significant performance impact.

Another option is to disable HT, which brought Macs' performance down 40%.

Basically, it's lose-lose situation. Or camp 'Red' can always have you too, you know?

Hello, thought that I'd try out some Hyper-V things on my secondary machine. Enable virtualization, first step - went to the BIOS (well, UEFI) and enabled SVM - after that the machine gets stuck at boot/black screen for a while and continues cycles back to the initial logo screen.

No boot problems after disabling SVM. Tried resetting all settings, and enabling SVM again, still the same behaviour.

Haven't run into virtualization problems on my other (intel) machines so I might be missing something really obvious.. Any ideas?

Does anyone know where I can find a beta bios that supports the new 32GB gskill sticks?

I'm using the Z390M Pro4, which advertises 128GB support,
but doesn't list support for any 32GB dimms.

I tired with the GSkill 32GB sticks but get no post.

Guten Abend,

Habe schon alles ausgebaut.
