Yes, you make some excellent points. I do in fact think that several of the usb 2.0 are being combined to create 3.0 ports.

Yes, you make some excellent points. I do in fact think that several of the usb 2.0 are being combined to create 3.0 ports.
I have tried the 2.0 ports directly connected to the MB which are on the IO panel in back, also with no success. I even took out all the front panel and 3rd party USB cards in my system and did a complete reinstall of the OS and still no success (trying both before service packs applied and after)
It does work on my wife's machine, same OS and same SP updates, but she has an Intel board not asrock. Apparently many people have this same issue and no one seems to have stumbled on the perfect solution. Schiit has come out with new products, Modi 2 and Modi 2 Uber both of which now use 3.0 ports so it may just be something I'm stuck with.
I've decided to donate the DAC to my wife and buy her some nice speakers for Christmas
